President Volodymyr Zelenskyi met with Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya, who made his first bilateral visit to Ukraine after the formation of the new government.
Separately, the Head of State noted that Takeshi Ivaya visited not only Kyiv, but also other Ukrainian cities, including Bucha.
The President thanked for consistently maintaining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as for significant financial and humanitarian assistance from Japan, in particular for the transfer of a new package of assistance to our energy sector.
“You have been on our side since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia, you have helped us. We highly appreciate the help that the Japanese government and people have provided to Ukraine. The amount of almost 12 billion dollars is the total support of Ukraine during this war,” Volodymyr Zelenskyi said.
Separately, the President thanked for the allocation of 3 billion dollars. within the framework of the G7 decision regarding a $50 billion loan, which will be repaid with the proceeds from frozen Russian assets.
The President noted the close relations between Ukraine and Japan, and also expressed hope that the dialogue will continue at the same high level with the new Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba.
“In light of what is happening with the intervention of the North Korean military in Russia’s war against Ukraine, it is important to discuss how to prevent further escalation by Russia, already together with North Korea,” he said.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Takeshi Ivaya agreed to intensify the implementation of the bilateral security agreement, which was concluded on June 13 in Apulia.
Takeshi Iwaya noted that he came to Ukraine to testify to the unchanged position: Japan is and will be together with Ukraine. Separately, he emphasized that he supports the strengthening of bilateral relations between the countries for the sake of security.
Among the other topics of the negotiations are Japan’s support of the Peace Formula and its further leadership in the implementation of the clause on nuclear security, expansion of economic and humanitarian cooperation, extension and strengthening of sanctions against Russia.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi also sent the head of the Japanese government an invitation to visit Ukraine.
