On the eve of the International Student Day, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi talked with students and teachers of higher education institutions in Colombia – the universities of La Sabana, Externado, Cartagena, Santo Tomas, the Pontifical Bolivarian University and the University of the Andes.
“Our country’s struggle for life has been going on for almost 1,000 days. And this struggle is not only about Ukraine. It also applies to you, everyone who values freedom, the right to choose one’s own path and a future without war. What this future will be depends on each of us today – people who live in different corners of the world, but have the same understanding of such concepts as freedom and justice,” said the President.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about how Ukrainian men and women are fighting against Russian aggression, as well as about Russian attacks on cities and, in particular, educational institutions of Ukraine. He expressed his belief that this will help the youth of Colombia to better understand what modern Russia is and what its war against Ukraine is like.
“This is an attempt to restore the colonial empire, to enslave our people, to take away our freedom and right to choose. Colombians who survived the struggle against colonialism know what it is like. They know how cruel the invaders can be, how they try to break your resistance and how important it is to fight, defend your freedom and the right of every people to live independently, to preserve their identity,” added the Head of State.
The President noted that in order to restore justice and lasting peace, Ukraine presented the International Community with the Peace Formula – a plan of specific steps. Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that the end of the war should be fair, and the negotiations should be effective.
Separately, during the conversation, they discussed the topic of responsibility that all war criminals should bear.
“Justice is needed for all parents who have lost their children, military and civilian. Justice is needed so that, over time, all those who gave these bloody orders to kill us, our population, to bomb us every day – so that all these people answer to the law, to have sentences,” said the President.
In addition, they discussed the involvement of the North Korean military in the war and the reaction of the world community to this fact.
“Two countries against us, against Ukraine. And I would very much like NATO to move from words to deeds and strengthen Ukraine. We would very much like to be given the opportunity to use long-range weapons against military targets on the territory of Russia,” the Head of State concluded.
