President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi held a phone conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau before the start of Canada’s G7 presidency.
The key topic of conversation is Canada’s work priorities at the head of the Group of Seven. Among them, the Head of State particularly noted the strengthening of sanctions against Russia, in particular regarding Russian propaganda and the shadow fleet. Ukraine proposes to create a joint working group with the G7 for better coordination of efforts and more effective search for ships that help the Russian Federation finance the war and pose a real threat to the environment.
Further coordination with all partners was also discussed. The common task is to ensure a strong position of Ukraine for the approach of a just and lasting peace.
Separately, the President talked about the situation on the battlefield, the course of the Kursk operation and the losses of the North Korean contingent.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi thanked Canada for all the defense support provided, in particular for the NASAMS system, and also informed about the current military needs, primarily regarding air defense and armored vehicles.
The President suggested that Canada increase funding for Ukrainian arms production and consider the possibility of localizing the production of certain types of weapons.
