Relations between Ukraine and Great Britain are now closer than ever. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after the end of negotiations with the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Keir Starmer, who visited Ukraine for the first time in this position.
According to the Head of State, today Ukraine and Great Britain reached a new level of relations and signed the Agreement on a one-year partnership.
“We are confident in the independence of our state, and this is something that Ukrainians will never give up. We are confident in our European partners, and this is what strengthens Ukraine, Britain, and our entire Euro-Atlantic space. This is the basis for the interaction of our peoples for generations to come,” the President said.
Air defense forces were working in Kyiv during the leaders’ talks. This, according to Volodymyr Zelenskyi, outlines the most important task – to strengthen the Ukrainian air defense, army, naval forces and cyber security.
“We agreed on at least 3.6 billion dollars of annual military aid to Ukraine – as much as it will be needed. Plus, they prepared a decision on another 3 billion dollars from Russian assets. In total, we have 6.6 billion dollars from Britain for this year alone,” added the Head of State.
The President also emphasized that Great Britain supports Ukraine’s accession to NATO, which is the best option for security guarantees not only for our country, but also for the entire Euro-Atlantic space.
“We say absolutely clearly that a just and lasting peace comes with strength. We are working with allies to repel aggression, to uphold international law, and to strengthen you now. In 2025, the United Kingdom will provide more military aid to Ukraine than ever before,” the Prime Minister of Great Britain emphasized.
Keir Starmer said that the United Kingdom will give Ukraine 150 artillery barrels and a new mobile air defense system developed by Great Britain and financed jointly with Denmark, and will also continue the training of Ukrainian soldiers.
“The history of the 21st century is being determined now. Our power now is to put it on the right path,” he concluded.
Based on the results of the negotiations and the concluded agreement, Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Kir Starmer instructed the relevant state authorities to work out the priority thematic areas within the Strategic Dialogue at a high level.
