The First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska took part in a video format in the event “Shaping the Future of Education Now”, which took place in New York on the sidelines of the UN Future Summit.
During her speech, she noted that in Ukraine, children’s indisputable right to education has to be physically protected from Russian aggression.
“It’s very difficult to teach and learn, to send your child to school, when there are air raid alarms in your city every day. But Ukrainians would never want to leave their children without the right to education, development and future. Therefore, today we are probably the country with the greatest development of online education in the world,” said the first lady.
To cover the need of students and teachers for gadgets for distance education, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Digital Transformation, together with the Elena Zelenska Foundation and international partners, created the Device Coalition.
The first lady emphasized that at the same time digitalization has become a strong point of Ukrainian education.
“We have a number of applications for online education. In particular, the “Dream” application presented by the President of Ukraine. He monitors not only the study schedule, but also the students’ academic performance, becoming a guide in the big educational world for both parents and children,” she added.
Olena Zelenska also said that despite the war, Ukraine continued the reform of school meals.
“No one carried out such a large-scale reform during the war. With it, Ukraine joined the international School Meals Coalition. And on November 12-13 this year, one of the events of this organization will be held in Kyiv – the European Regional Summit on School Nutrition, where representatives of governments, organizations and experts from all over the world will be present,” said the First Lady.
In addition, the President’s wife emphasized that, although our experience was acquired in an extreme way, Ukraine has something to share with the world.
