This year, Ukraine can take very concrete steps towards rapprochement with the European Union, because Poland’s six-month presidency of the EU Council has begun. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this during a meeting with students of the Higher School of Economics in Warsaw, where about 300 Ukrainians study.
Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, the university has provided support to hundreds of Ukrainian students and their families. Humanitarian meetings were held here, forced migrants were sheltered, and charitable assistance was provided.
“I am an ordinary person, and I would like to thank you, the ordinary people of Poland, the student body that supported ordinary Ukrainians in a very difficult moment with volunteerism, help, attitude, dedication. It seems to me that the most important thing is humanity, and it is for such values that we all fight. I want to thank you for this,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
According to the President, the knowledge and experience currently being acquired by Ukrainian students, as well as the help of partner countries and investments, will be important for the future reconstruction.
“I believe that the number one thing in the restoration of Ukraine, not even in reconstruction, but in the restoration of Ukraine is the people. This is psychological and other rehabilitation. Because I believe that human capital is the most important. Today, Ukraine rests on the shoulders of human capital,” the President noted.
In addition, during the meeting, the future membership of Ukraine in the EU and the need for specialists in European integration, as well as the development of Ukrainian-Polish relations and their strengthening, were discussed in detail.
“I see the development of our future relations in the protection of Ukraine, Poland and Europe. Because whoever is with you in the most difficult times, who paid the most expensive price, I think that he will be with you in the future. We very much hope that we will maintain such relations with Poland,” concluded Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
