The Register of Damages Caused by the Russian Federation’s Aggression Against Ukraine has begun accepting applications under one more category – the death of a close family member.

Close relatives of the deceased person or other family members who have legal grounds and can confirm this can submit a relevant application through the Diya web portal.

The category applies not only to those killed since February 24, 2022 on the territory of Ukraine, but also to those who died outside the country, if it happened as a result of Russian aggression.

The first category for which claims began to be accepted last April was damage or destruction of a home. Work is now underway to open the rest.

In total, the Register will accept applications for more than 40 categories of damages. In particular, regarding the death of people, torture, sexual violence, bodily harm, forced displacement and resettlement, loss of property and income, damage to critical infrastructure and other state facilities, as well as damage to historical and cultural heritage and the environment.

Deputy Head of the Office of the President Iryna Mudra emphasized that the international compensation mechanism is one of the key priorities of the seventh point of the Peace Formula of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

“Today we finally achieved an important result that we have been working towards since the first days of the full-scale invasion. During this time, we carried out significant legal, diplomatic and political work. And although we are only at the beginning of the path of restoring justice for Ukrainians, we are convinced that together we will be able to achieve it,” concluded Iryna Mudra.
