The agreement signed between Ukraine and Great Britain is historic, as it is the first time our country has concluded a document on cooperation for 100 years. The head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, stated this on the telethon “Edyny Novyny”.
He emphasized that the document talks about cooperation to increase defense capabilities, in particular, the production of Ukrainian weapons, the creation of a joint flotilla, as well as the protection and restoration of Ukrainian heritage damaged or destroyed by Russia, and the training of the Ukrainian military in Great Britain.
The head of the President’s Office noted that in the agreement Great Britain confirmed Ukraine’s irreversible path to NATO and testified that it would strengthen sanctions against the Russian economy.
“There are very interesting new agreements, such as, for example, coordination of joint actions, military joint actions, in the case when it will be necessary. Of course, this involves work to fully develop this mechanism, but the fact that it is already being fixed and these terms are being introduced into our bilateral relations is absolutely unprecedented. And this once again indicates that from cooperation we are entering the stage of alliance. This agreement is the first and historic, but I am sure it will not be the last,” he said.
Separately, the head of the President’s Office thanked the USA, Great Britain and other partner countries for the recent sanctions package. According to him, it is important not only to strengthen sanctions, but also to look for loopholes that allow the Russian Federation to circumvent them. In particular, Ukraine hopes that the policy of the new administration of President Trump will be aimed at regulating the price of oil. Andriy Yermak added that constructive cooperation is already being established between the two teams.
He also said that Volodymyr Zelenskyy held successful negotiations with the Prime Minister and the President in Poland. This year, during the period of the presidency of the EU Council of Poland and Denmark, Ukraine aims to open the maximum number of negotiation clusters with the European Union.
In addition, the head of the Office of the Head of State noted that the joint discussion with partners of the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron on the peacekeeping contingent is ongoing.
