In Odesa, First Lady Olena Zelenska familiarized herself with the work of the Ukrainian Medical Center for the Rehabilitation of Mother and Child.

As part of the All-Ukrainian mental health program “How are you?” the institution has created mobile multidisciplinary teams that provide psychological and medical assistance to children in remote settlements of Odesa. The teams have already made almost a hundred visits to 52 communities and examined 2,150 children and 1,228 adults.

About 80% of patients who underwent rehabilitation at the center during the past year came to the facility after visits by mobile multidisciplinary teams.

“There is no need to tell how important medical care is now, which includes mental health support, especially in a region where an attacker is targeting every day, especially for children. That is why this help should be as close as possible and even come to the patient, who is not easy to get to the regional center,” the first lady stressed.

The President’s wife also noted the work of the Space for socio-psychological support for children and parents, opened on the basis of the center, which provides social, psychological, legal, pedagogical and humanitarian assistance to families with children of vulnerable categories. Art therapy and creative workshops, developmental classes, game activities, trainings, classes with a speech therapist, sessions with an occupational therapist for children are held there, and trainings and mutual support groups are organized for parents.

Olena Zelenska also visited the Odesa Regional Center of Ukrainian Culture, which conducts field workshops and art therapy for IDPs and events for the wounded who are in hospitals.

In addition, the center implements the innovative project “My Story”, within which displaced students have the opportunity to tell stories of life during the war in the podcast format and recover psychologically by studying folk traditions. Last year, the institution equipped the “Christmas at Home” space, which became a platform for the reunion of families who lost their homes.

“Feel at home regardless of what you’ve experienced, be in a circle of like-minded people and feel supported – that’s exactly what the center does for the residents of the region. And this is very much in the spirit of the All-Ukrainian mental health program “How are you?”. After all, among the medicines for the soul, creativity and culture occupy one of the most important places,” the first lady concluded.
