During his visit to Poland, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, announced the awarding of the City of Savior honorary title to Warsaw. The relevant decree was signed by the Head of State on January 13 of this year.
The award was given to the capital of Poland for the demonstrated humanism, mercy and solidarity with the Ukrainian people, comprehensive assistance to Ukrainians who were forced to leave Ukraine due to Russian armed aggression, as well as for the strong support of our state in the defense of independence and sovereignty. The honor was received by the mayor of Warsaw, Rafal Tszaskowski.
The “Rescuer City” award was previously awarded to other Polish cities – Rzeszów, Przemyśl, Lublin and Chelm. It was presented by Volodymyr Zelenskyi during his official visit to Poland in April 2023.
Then the President noted the scale of assistance provided to Ukraine by Polish border towns. This includes, in particular, the arrangement of hundreds of reception points for Ukrainians, the creation of hubs and logistics centers for the collection and transfer of humanitarian goods.
The “Saviour City” distinction was also awarded to Paris, Prague and Vilnius.
