In Krakow, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi held a meeting with the Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Szymon Holovna.
The head of state arrived in Poland on a visit to participate in events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, where more than a million people died during the Second World War. Most of the prisoners killed by the Nazis were Jews. Today the world commemorates all the victims of the Holocaust. This crime against humanity must never happen again, which is why it is so important to fight the evil that still exists in the world.
“We are very grateful to Poland for the invitation. This is a very special and sensitive day for us. And we also thank the entire Polish people for your support during this war,” he said.
The military strengthening of our state is a significant guarantee of achieving a just and lasting peace. Ukraine is counting on continued support from the Polish Sejm, in particular by strengthening the sanctions policy against the Russian Federation.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Shimon Golovnya noted the importance of the summit of the speakers of the parliaments of Ukraine, Poland and the Baltic countries, which was launched last year in June, aimed at supporting the Ukrainian state and strengthening security in Europe.
Particular attention is paid to the negotiations regarding Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and the expected opening of the first negotiating clusters during the Polish presidency of the Council of the EU.
The parties also discussed the implementation of joint projects on the arrangement of border crossing points and the creation of appropriate conditions for Ukrainians and Poles during border control.
Shymon Holovnya noted that this meeting once again confirms the strength of relations between Ukraine and Poland, which should remain so in the future.
