The First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska met with the President of Moldova Maya Sandu.
“Your country shows solidarity and a deep understanding of the importance of our joint efforts in this extremely difficult period. I want to especially thank you for the warm shelter that Moldova provided to more than 125,000 Ukrainian forced migrants,” said Olena Zelenska.
The first lady also thanked Moldova for the implementation of joint cultural projects, in particular for the opening of more than 70 Ukrainian bookshelves in the country’s libraries.
In addition, Olena Zelenska and Maya Sandu visited the School of Superheroes, which operates on the basis of the National Cancer Institute.
“Today I have the opportunity to show you a unique educational project that has been successfully implemented in Ukraine for several years. Schools of Superheroes are educational spaces in children’s hospitals, which give children who are forced to stay in hospitals for long-term treatment, the opportunity not to drop out of the educational process and to have access to lessons and study in parallel with their classmates,” said Olena Zelenska.
Of the 17 such spaces in 13 cities, six were opened last year with the support of the Elena Zelenska Foundation.
“And we will open at least 6 more such Schools – in Chernihiv, Cherkassy, Lutsk, Chernivtsi, Ternopil and Mukachevo. Our separate goal is to restore the cell in Okhmatdyt, which was destroyed by a Russian missile last summer,” the first lady added.
Olena Zelenska and Maya Sandu got acquainted with the peculiarities of teaching in grades 5-11 of the School, listened to a lesson dedicated to the Day of the Unity of Ukraine, and talked with the students.
“Our sincere admiration and best wishes to all these Superheroes who, despite difficult treatment, find strength and desire to learn. Our Schools and teachers, for their part, are doing and will do everything so that new knowledge and impressions help both in treatment and in a long, happy life,” the first lady concluded.
