The 12th meeting of the Coalition of States (Core Group) on the creation of a special tribunal on the crime of aggression against Ukraine was held in Riga. The coalition includes 41 states. The Ukrainian delegation was headed by the deputy head of the Office of the President, Iryna Mudra.
As a result of the meeting, the key parameters of the tribunal’s work were agreed upon, in particular regarding its jurisdiction, and a road map was drawn up, which clearly provided for specific further steps towards the creation of a special tribunal.
“We finally made some significant progress this year. Ukraine’s position is clear and unambiguous: we cannot and will not compromise on justice,” said Iryna Mudra.
In addition, a statement was approved for the first time, which confirmed the inevitability of punishment for the aggressors. It also reflects the strong joint position of the international coalition of States Parties and their commitment to the speedy establishment of the Special Tribunal.
In addition, the coalition noted the progress in the preparation of the draft bilateral agreement between the Council of Europe and the government of Ukraine on the establishment of a special tribunal, the draft of its statute and the draft of the Expanded Partial Agreement, which defines the terms of support for the tribunal.
The special tribunal is created to punish the highest military and political leadership of the aggressor countries for planning, preparing, launching and waging an aggressive war – the most serious international crime.
