Presidential Office Head Andriy Ermak had a telephone conversation with the former prisoner of Bershad Ghetto Roman Schwartzman.

Andriy Yermak thanked for his active activity to preserve the memory of Nazi crimes against humanity. Separately, he noted Roman Schwartzman’s recent speech in the German Bundestag. Then a living Holocaust witness compared the actions of modern Russia with Nazi crimes and called for international support of Ukraine.

“Today is extremely important what you do. It is very important to convey, in particular, information about the need for further support of Ukraine. After all, the war is ongoing, we need to use all the opportunities for the world to hear us and not lose the necessary unity, ”said the head of the office of the Head of State.

Andriy Yermak also suggested meeting with representatives of the United States, Israel, Germany, working on preserving the memory of the Holocaust victims, in particular, to discuss the consequences of crimes against the humanity that Russia is committing against the Ukrainian people now.

Roman Schwartzman noted the stability and perseverance that all Ukraine shows in confrontation with the aggressor. He is convinced that this struggle will have an important place in history.

Born in Vinnytsia region in a large Jewish family, Roman Schwartzman, together with his family, got to the ghetto Bershad when he was five years old. Since the early 1990s, he has been actively engaged in public activity to preserve the memory of the Holocaust victims. He is the chairman of the Odessa Regional Association of Jews – former ghetto prisoners and Nazi concentration camps.
