Under the chairmanship of the deputy head of the President’s Office, Iryna Vereshchuk, a meeting was held with the families of Ukrainian civilians illegally held captive by the Russian Federation.
Among the participants are representatives of the government, the General Staff of the Armed Forces, the Coordinating Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the United Center for the Coordination of the Search and Release of Persons Illegally Deprived of their Liberty as a result of the Armed Aggression of the Russian Federation under the SBU, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, the National Information Bureau, people’s deputies and members of specialized human rights organizations.
Representatives of the Coordination Headquarters explained how the search and release of civilians from Russian captivity takes place, and also informed about the work done in this direction.
In addition, it was about financial assistance to those released from captivity, support for the families of prisoners, the need for legislative changes regarding the postponement of mobilization for civilians released from captivity and the activities of the Commission on establishing the fact of deprivation of personal freedom as a result of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
“The return of civilian prisoners is one of our priority tasks. We also need a constant dialogue of the authorities with the families of the prisoners and with specialized public organizations,” Iryna Vereshchuk emphasized.
