Zabarny angered the players of Lyon. The ex-referee of FIFA explained what happened

Former FIFA referee Bruno Derrien remained dissatisfied with the work of his compatriot Benoit Bastien in the match “Lyon” – PSG (2:3), which took place on November 9.

In one of the episodes in the 30th minute of the match, the defender of the Paris club Ilya Zabarny played a handball in his own penalty area, but the referee, using the help of VAR, refused to award an 11-meter kick.

The players and coaching staff of “Lyon” were angry with such a decision, they tried to prove to Bastien that Zabarny played with his hand on purpose, but they failed to convince the referee.

“Zabarny’s hand is raised high above his head, and he touches the ball with his fingers. His hand is in the air – this falls under the category of unnatural position.

Playing in this way, with an outstretched hand, the player always risks touching the ball. Even if the trajectory of the ball does not change, it is not important to the final decision according to the rules. Therefore, the referee should have awarded a penalty against PSG,” Derrien is sure.
