– There were many games in which the team performed well, but the result did not reflect this. What is the reason for such discrepancies between the game and the result?
– The result does not always reflect the events on the field. I will say that we were not able to strengthen as much as we wanted before the start of League One. But there are reasons for this. We lacked personnel potential, there were many injuries and disqualifications of key football players. If this had not happened, the start of the season would have been somewhat different. But we understand that the championship is very long. The first part consists of 18 matches plus cup games. Here is our shortcoming in breeding work, which we will try to correct in the winter. Therefore, in some matches, we had to use football players in positions other than those in which they should play. For example, we played several games without nominal strikers at all. It leaves its mark. Plus, after the transition from one league to another, it was necessary to readjust a little – in terms of speed, power struggle, aggression. Apparently, we played well with the ball in the first matches, but the opponents scored a result thanks to their fighting qualities or the individual skill of the football players. That is why it was not possible to take credit points somewhere. Over time, I believe, the situation has improved, and we have already become more specific.
– Are there football players in the “tigers” who are already interested in clubs of a higher rank?
– There is, but let’s agree this way: when we really receive a specific offer, we will definitely inform about it. The very fact of attention is pleasing, because the work of football players attracts the interest of the highest level of our football. But for now, it’s just attention. When there is a demand and a real offer, we will tell you about it.
– What tasks in the transfer market will Chernihiv football club solve in the winter?
– Probably, we will focus more on the attack group, because we have good competition in the defense. We can choose players for specific matches, carry out rotation, and this, in principle, works all the time. Everyone plays at a good level, competes and understands each other well. But in the offensive line, the situation with injuries is more complicated: there are positions where we have one or two people. I would like more competition so that the overall progress of the team is faster. And that football players, who understand that they are playing today, treat their work even more qualitatively, because every day there may be another player in their place.
– What was this year like for you personally as a head coach and sports director? What are the main lessons you learned??
– In terms of football, the year was very interesting. This is a year that I, one hundred percent, will remember for the rest of my life. We accomplished a difficult task – we left the Second League for the First League. They performed it seriously and solidly and got the right to represent our city in the First League. This is a very interesting championship – the strongest of those in which I worked as a coach. Now there is a lot to think about while the team is resting. Football players rest, while the coaching and administrative staff continue to work and analyze how to improve our game. If we talk about the conclusions, then we were wrong in what we thought: the team that played in the Second League will be able to perform well enough in the First League. Perhaps it would be, but the large number of loads and matches made itself felt. We needed to find 3-4 players of our level to compete, and we will try to correct these mistakes in the winter.
