Legendary French striker Thierry Henry mentioned the injustice associated with the absence of the “Golden Ball” in the career of the former captain of “Liverpool” Steven Gerrard. The Frenchman believes the Englishman deserved football’s top individual award after his 2005 Champions League triumph.
“It was a shame for all of football that he didn’t win the Ballon d’Or after Istanbul in 2005. For me, he will always be one of the best midfielders of all time,” said Henry.
It will be recalled that it was Gerrard who was the key figure in Liverpool’s incredible comeback in the Champions League final against Milan, when the English club overcame a 0-3 deficit and won the trophy in a penalty shootout.
