There were only four of them. Newcastle can win the League Cup twice in a row

In the history of the English League Cup, there are only four teams who managed to win the trophy in at least two consecutive seasons.

Manchester City and Liverpool are the only ones who managed to win the tournament four times in a row. “Towns” did it in the period from 2018 to 2021, “Reds” – from 1981 to 1984.

Nottingham Forest won the trophy twice in a row: 1978-79 and 1989-90.

The fourth team in this rating is Manchester United. The Red Devils won back-to-back FA Cups in 2009 and 2010.

The current winner of the tournament, “Newcastle”, will also try to enter their name in this rating, but for this, the “Magpies” must first go through “Manchester City” in the semi-finals.

Teams that have won the League Cup in at least two consecutive seasons

  • 4 – Manchester City (2018-2021)
  • 4 – Liverpool (1981-1984)
  • 2 – Manchester United (2009-2010)
  • 2 – Nottingham Forest (1989-1990)
  • 2 – Nottingham Forest (1978-1979)
