The legendary Romanian goalkeeper who won the Champions League with Steaua has died

On December 2, FCSB Bucharest football club announced the death of the team’s legendary goalkeeper Helmut Dukadam. At the time of his death, the ex-janitor was 65 years old

He began his career at the football school “Constructor” from the city of Arad. From there he moved to the team of the second division “UTA”, where he spent two remarkable seasons, after which he attracted the attention of the capital’s “Steaua”.

Since 1982, Dukadam has been the main goalkeeper of the Bucharest club. During this time, he won the Romanian championship twice.

The 1985/86 season was historic for Steaua. The Romanian team won the Champions League, and Dukadam went down in history thanks to the fact that he saved four penalties from Barcelona players in the final.

After that season, he was forced to leave Steaua because of a rare blood disease. In particular, the goalkeeper missed the match with Dynamo Kyiv, and then temporarily suspended his career.

Three years later, after defeating the disease, Dukadam returned to football and played for the team from his hometown of Arad, which played in the second division of the country.
