Former Manchester United, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid forward Radamel Falcao has said he failed to win the Ballon d’Or because of Argentina’s Lionel Messi and Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

In 2012, the Colombian striker took fifth place in the France Football poll. He was overtaken by Messi, Ronaldo, Iniesta and Xavi.

“It is a great honor for me to be around such footballers. I wanted to win the Ballon d’Or, but I am from the generation of Leo and Cristiano. If they had not played in Spain, I would have won the goal-scoring race. I was at my peak at Atlético,” the Colombian publication reports.

Messi won eight Ballon d’Or and Ronaldo five.

It was previously reported that Radamel Falcao has again found a club in Colombia.
