In an interview with the club’s press service, the Ukrainian stressed that the key factor for him was the playing style of the Amsterdam team:
“Ajax has its own style and it suits me very well. It’s a team that always plays combination, attractive football. I’m looking forward to the moment when I can join the team, get to know everyone and play my first match for the fans,” Zinchenko said.

The football player admitted that the negotiations lasted several tense days, but he had almost no doubts about the choice of the club:
“These were very intense days from the moment I first heard about this opportunity. But I immediately understood that Ajax is a big club with a rich history. When the chance arose, I knew that this style of play suited me,” the Ukrainian said.
Oleksandr also drew parallels between Ajax and his previous teams:
“Both Manchester City and Arsenal like to dominate on the field. Ajax has similar principles, and I like that very much,” the defender emphasized.
Before making the final decision, Zinchenko consulted with Jurrien Timber, his former partner at Arsenal:
“He was the first person I called. Jurrien spoke only positive things about the club and said that I would like it here. After this conversation, I had no doubts,” the football player said.
Separately, the Ukrainian paid attention to his role in the team, taking into account his experience:
“I understand that I am one of the most experienced players in the team. I want to help young football players in their development and do everything possible to meet the expectations of the club,” said Zinchenko.
He also shared his memories of the Johan Cruyff Arena, where he previously played for the Ukrainian national team:
“The last time I was here was during the match between the Netherlands and Ukraine at the Euro. We lost, but the atmosphere was fantastic. The stadium is incredible, and now I have an even greater desire to go on the field in an Ajax shirt,” added the player.
Zinchenko can make his debut for the Amsterdam club as early as February 8 in the Dutch Championship match against AZ. Ajax is currently in fourth place in the Eredivisie and is fighting for a place in the Champions League.
For Zinchenko, this move means a return to the Netherlands for the first time since the 2016/17 season, when he played for PSV on loan.
