Liverpool manager Arne Slott has revealed that 25-year-old defender Jeremy Frimpong will miss several weeks with a groin injury.

An unpleasant incident happened on Wednesday during the Champions League match against Karabakh (6:0), when the player had to be replaced in the fourth minute of the meeting. Despite the loss, the Merseyside coach is trying to remain optimistic, as the initial forecasts were worse.

“Frimpong will definitely not be in the squad tomorrow. He’s out for a few weeks, but it’s not as bad as we thought. So there are both positives and negatives in this situation.”– said Slot at the press conference.

The Dutchman’s injury has created a major headache for the coaching staff ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United. In fact, there is not a single nominal right defender left at Slot’s disposal:

Conor Bradley is out for the rest of the season with a severe knee injury (bone and ligament damage). Joe Gomez, who could cover the position, will also miss the game due to a recent injury, although the coach expects him to return quickly.

This is the second injury for Frimpong, who joined Liverpool in the summer of 2025, having previously missed some games with a hamstring problem. Now, Arne Slott will have to look for emergency rotation options or change the tactical scheme to close the problem area in the defense for the match against the Magpies.
