Real Madrid unexpectedly stopped their performances in the Spanish Cup at the round of 16 stage, losing to Albacete with a score of 2:3. The match at the Estadio Carlos Belmonte was Alvaro Arbeloa’s first in the role of head coach after the scandalous dismissal of Xabi Alonso and ended in a real fiasco for the giants.

The hosts, who play in the second division, opened the scoring in the 42nd minute, with Javi Villar successfully closing the ball with a header. Real managed to win back even before the break: in stoppage time, Franco Mastantuono quickly found his way after a save by the goalkeeper Albacete and scored the first goal of the “creamy” team in the new coaching era.

In the second half, Albacete took the lead again – Hefte scored in the 82nd minute. It looked like Madrid would be saved when Gonzalo Garcia equalized in the 90th+1st minute, but it was the hosts who had the final say. Already in the 90th + 4th minute, Hefte scored a double and brought his team a resounding victory.

Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, who was in the starting line-up of Real Madrid, took the ball out of the net three times. Albacete created one of the main sensations of the tournament and knocked one of his favorites out of the Spanish Cup.
