Spanish specialist Xabi Alonso wrote a farewell post to the fans and players of Real Madrid, where he was fired the day before.

“The stage of my professional work is coming to an end, and it did not turn out the way we wanted. Coaching Real Madrid was an honor and a great responsibility for me.

I thank the club, the players and, above all, the fans for their trust and support. I leave with respect, gratitude and pride for doing my best,” Alonso wrote on Instagram.

After 19 rounds, Real have 45 points and are second in La Liga, four points behind Barcelona.

It was previously reported that Alonso became the first coach of Real Madrid without a single trophy after 30 matches.
