Red Devils fans have been voicing their displeasure with the refereeing in droves, focusing on an episode involving star Clarets defender Kyle Walker.
In the 77th minute of the match, cameras captured the moment when the former Manchester City player, now a Burnley footballer, stepped with his right foot on the back of Patrik Dorgu’s thigh. At the same time, the ball was not nearby.
Walker immediately apologized to his opponent and the Dane accepted the apology, which probably saved the 35-year-old Englishman from a red card on the pitch. However, VAR did not intervene in the situation, which caused a wave of anger.
United supporters have taken to social media to call the act despicable and deliberate, demanding an investigation from the FA. “What are you doing with this Walker foul? It was intentional and cruel against a young player!”, users on the X network (Twitter) wrote.
Others note: “Someone gets sent off for pulling hair, and then they step on their feet and it goes unpunished. Refereeing at its worst.”
It is worth noting that this is not the only episode that angered the guests. United also had Lisandro Martinez’s goal disallowed after Walker was fouled in a tackle.
V.O. Mancunians head coach Darren Fletcher expressed his disappointment with the result after the game, noting that the team had created enough chances to win, with Benjamin Sheszka’s brace the only bright spot on the night.
