While the club have already unveiled Liam Rosenior as their new manager, the Italian, who led the Blues to victory in the Club World Cup, chose to say goodbye via social media. In his Instagram post, Maresca did not take the trash out of the house or comment on disagreements with the board of directors, but chose the path of dignity, opening his address with a quote from Robert Baden-Powell:
“LEAVE THIS WORLD A LITTLE BETTER THAN YOU FOUND IT.”
Maresca made it clear that he was proud of his work at Stamford Bridge: “I leave with inner peace knowing that I am leaving such a prestigious club where it deserves to be.”
The ex-coach did not miss the opportunity to remind that during the 18 months of his work, the club museum was significantly replenished:
“I want to thank all the Chelsea fans for their support. The support that was decisive for entering the Champions League, winning the Conference League and winning the Club World Cup. Victories that I will always keep in my heart!,” the professional emphasized.
In his address, Maresca warmly thanked the players, staff and fans and wished them well in the second half of the season. However, his text did not contain a single word of thanks to the club’s owners (Todd Boeli and Clearlake Capital) or athletic directors.
This only confirms the rumors about a serious split between the coach and the management regarding the transfer policy, which led to his resignation.
“A special thanks to all the players who have accompanied me on this wonderful journey. Thank you, CHELSEA, from me and my family,” concluded Maresca.
Maresca took charge of Chelsea in the summer of 2024. The London club is in 5th place in the Premier League standings, having collected 30 points after 19 matches. The Blues have won just two of their last nine matches in all competitions.
