According to journalist Pete Hall, the 44-year-old English specialist is considered one of the most realistic options for stabilizing the situation in the team. The sides are expected to begin negotiations in the coming days and Carrick could be handed the mandate before the end of the current season.
Michael Carrick already has experience at the head of Manchester United. At the end of 2021, he briefly took over as head coach following the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The specialist later took charge of Middlesbrough, where he worked until his dismissal in June 2025.
