The head coach of London Chelsea, Enzo Maresca, once again tried to cool the expectations of fans and experts regarding the club’s championship ambitions this season.

Despite the fact that the team shows progress and is stable in the top 4, the Italian insists: the blues are not yet ready to fight for gold. Maresca clearly outlined the difference between his team and the main favorites of the league.

According to him, the main factor is the time and stability of the project: Manchester City has been working with Pep Guardiola for almost ten years, and Mikel Arteta has been building Arsenal for more than five years. Maresca emphasized that he has only been at the club for two years and to demand that the team win the Premier League right now is to ignore the real state of affairs.

The coach said that concrete goals for the season can only be discussed in March if the team keeps up the pace after a difficult winter period. Maresca paid special attention to his high-profile statement made after the victory over Everton (2:0). Then he called the two days before the game the worst since coming to the club.

The coach explained that these words referred to the atmosphere around the team. He felt that despite the positive results, many did not give him and the players enough support. Internal pressure and external criticism after individual failures created a toxic environment that the specialist took to heart. Maresca stressed that the team needs unity, especially as it goes through a rebuilding phase.
