Manchester City have terminated Claudio Echeverri’s loan at Bayer Leverkusen early due to a lack of game practice and are sending him to Catalonia.

The 19-year-old from River Plate, who is owned by Manchester City, will join Spanish side Girona on loan. This transfer was the result of the early termination of the player’s cooperation with Bayer Leverkusen.
The lease agreement with the German club was designed for the entire season, but the townspeople decided to use the right to recall the player. The main reason was that Echeverri almost did not get playing time under the leadership of Kasper Uhlmann – the competition among the leaders of the Bundesliga turned out to be too high for the young talent.
The head coach of the pharmacists confirmed the termination of the agreement, noting that in the current situation the club could not guarantee Claudio the required number of minutes on the field. In Germany, the Argentinian was satisfied with only occasional appearances as a substitute, which did not contribute to his development.
Echeverri will officially become a Girona player on January 1, 2026. The lease is calculated until the end of the current season. Sending the player to Girona (which is part of the City Football Group structure) will allow Manchester City to better control the player’s adaptation process and provide him with stable practice in the Spanish league.
It is expected that in Girona, Echeverri will be able to adapt more quickly to European requirements and demonstrate his dribbling and creativity, with which he conquered the Argentine championship. The Catalan club, in turn, receives a serious reinforcement in the fight for survival.
