The first half was an even battle with chances at both goals. Roma threatened several times with strikes from Dybala and Pellegrini, but Michele Di Gregorio acted reliably. The most intense episodes of Juventus were connected with the activity of Kenan Yildiz and Lois Openda. It was their interplay that produced the result at the end of the half: after a combination on the left wing, Francisco Conceisan beat a defender and fired accurately into the far corner to open the scoring.
After the break, Juventus continued to press. Yildiz hit the post, and Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar saved the team several times after shots by Conceisan and Cambiazo. However, the second goal could not be avoided. After a cross from the wing and a save by Svilar, Weston McKenney was first to finish and Lois Openda fired home from close range for his Serie A debut.
Roma managed to reduce the deficit at the end of the match after the standard, but the guests did not have enough time and energy for more. Juventus confidently brought the game to victory, despite the pressure in stoppage time.
