In the quarter-final match of the English League Cup, Newcastle United beat Fulham 2:1 at home. The match at St. James Park went to a penalty shootout for a long time, but young Lewis Miley became the hero of the evening already in stoppage time.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Yoan Wissa, who was making his first start for Newcastle, finished off Jacob Murphy’s cross. However, the advantage of the “Forties” did not last long – already in the 16th minute, Sasha Lukich headed Antony Robinson’s pass and equalized the score.

In the second half, Newcastle had a noticeable game advantage, created moments, but could not break the defense of the Londoners. When the match was confidently heading for a draw in regular time, the standard became decisive: in the 90th + 2nd minute, Sandro Tonali served from a corner, and Miley’s accurate header brought the home team a ticket to the semi-finals.

This keeps Newcastle United in contention for the trophy and the chance to defend the title, while Fulham ends their run in the tournament.
