Streaming service Netflix has reached an agreement with Goalhanger, a company co-founded by legendary English footballer and TV presenter Gary Lineker, to produce podcasts during the 2026 World Cup, The Times reports.

The total value of the contract is estimated to be around £14m, equivalent to more than £1.6m per week during the tournament. The main product of cooperation will be the show The Rest Is Football, which will be released throughout the World Cup.

Lineker will be joined by Alan Shearer and Mike Richards on the podcast. Part of the funds will also be used to pay fees to invited guests of the program.

It is noted that while working at the BBC, Gary Lineker received an annual salary of 1.35 million pounds. At the same time, according to financial statements published by the UK Register Chamber, Lineker’s company recorded a profit of 3.1 million pounds in 2024.
