The incident happened during a tense match against Leeds on October 18, which ended in a 2-0 win for Burnley.
The independent regulatory commission found that the 22-year-old ex-Manchester United player spat in the direction of fans of the rival team. It happened around the 67th minute of the match, when Mezhbry was not yet on the field, but warming up near the stands (he was substituted later, in the 83rd minute).
The Tunisian midfielder was banned for four games and ordered to pay a fine of £15,000. Mezhbry pleaded guilty and accepted the misconduct charges.
The loss of Maghbri is a major blow for Burnley, who are currently struggling in the relegation zone of the Premier League after a run of five consecutive defeats.
The player will miss important matches against Newcastle, Fulham, Bournemouth and Everton and will not be able to return to the field until the end of December.
