Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has been summoned to a Rome court for a preliminary hearing on charges of providing false information in the club’s financial statements for 2019, 2020 and 2021. His long-time partner Andrea Chiavelli and the Serie A club itself will also appear before the court. Tuttosport reports.

At the heart of the legal case is the alleged over-inflated capital gains associated with two major transfer deals: the signing of Kostas Manolas from Roma in 2019 and Victor Osimhen from Lille in 2020.

The trial is scheduled to begin on December 2, 2026.

It is important to note that Napoli is not subject to any sports sanctions. FIGC prosecutor Giuseppe Kine reviewed the case in 2022 and closed it, meaning the club’s championship status and points tally will not change.

Meanwhile, De Laurentiis’ legal team strongly criticized the decision, calling the indictment unexpected and saying the case should have been dismissed.

“We are absolutely stunned. There were obvious grounds for the acquittal of the accused. The Financial Guard incorrectly applied the principles of accounting, and even the prosecutor’s office stated that Napoli did not receive any benefit from these transactions,” said the lawyers of the president of the “Neapolitans”.

The lawyers also added that the system of preliminary hearings in Italy has become an unnecessary step, saying that a more transparent justification of the decisions on transferring cases to court is needed.

After 11 rounds, Napoli has 22 points and is fourth in Serie A, two points behind Inter and Roma.
