Mircea Lucescu’s team opened the scoring in the 17th minute thanks to a precise shot by Birlighea. However, in the second half, the hosts seized the initiative. From the 67th minute, Romania remained in the minority after Dregush was sent off, and this moment became a turning point.
Bosnia and Herzegovina took full advantage of their numerical advantage: first, Dzeko equalized the score in the 79th minute, Bajraktarević almost immediately put the team ahead, and in stoppage time, Tabakovic put the finishing touches — 3:1.
After this victory, the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina scored 16 points and holds the second place in Group H. Romania, having 10 points, remains third and finally lost its chances to participate in the 2026 World Cup.
