Attacking midfielder Harvey Elliott’s loan spell at Aston Villa is going poorly for him. The 22-year-old midfielder has not yet been able to establish himself in Unai Emery’s team and is practically not getting playing time.

Elliott joined Aston Villa on the final day of the summer transfer window on loan from Liverpool. The agreement provides for a mandatory buyout for approximately 30-35 million pounds after 10 matches – so far, the Englishman has played only five times, and only twice started in the starting line-up.

In recent weeks, the situation has worsened: in three rounds of the Premier League in a row, Emery did not even include Elliott in the application. Because of this, there were rumors about a possible early termination of the lease already in the winter. However, according to information The Athleticnone of the clubs plans to terminate the agreement, and the contract does not have an option to recall the player.

As noted, Elliott’s problems are related to the difficulty of adapting to Emery’s demands, as well as high competition in the attacking midfield, where the coach prefers Morgan Rodgers, John McGinn, Youri Tielemans and Emiliano Buendia.

Harvey Elliott was named the Euro 2025 U-21 Player of the Year last summer, but his path to consistent practice at Villa is looking extremely difficult at the moment. Perhaps the Lions’ recent problems with financial stability have an effect on the playing time situation – another big-name loanee, Jadon Sancho, does not trust Emery (336 minutes in 8 games).
