“First of all, it’s important because Milan deserves a stadium like the top European clubs. The city, Milan and Inter need it. We want to present the best spectacle in Europe. I’ve been working on this project for six years and we’ve finally succeeded. They say good things take time.
I think the current area is either too empty or too crowded. We have another idea – to create a lively zone, like the leading European clubs.
At the stadium of Real Madrid, for example, seven restaurants are open all year round. Could the same have been done at San Siro? We decided not to renovate for two reasons. Firstly, we would not be able to build the most beautiful stadium in Europe. Secondly, it is impossible to reconstruct an arena where matches take place every three days. Also, there are no stadiums in Milan where we can play at this time. Therefore, we decided to invest much more money and build a new stadium.
I believe that we will make it to the 2032 European Championship. Soon we will start designing, and then construction. I think we will have a functioning stadium by 2030.
Milan needs a new stadium, as does all of Italy. We are 20 years behind in investment in sports and must make up for lost time. Judging by the last European Championship, we need investment everywhere. I hope Milan will be an example,” Scaroni said.
