The first goal in the meeting was scored by Julián Alvarez in the 39th minute, putting the hosts ahead. After the break, Conor Gallagher doubled the Spanish lead in the 73rd minute. The Belgians managed to reduce the deficit thanks to an 80th minute strike from Ross Sykes, but Marcos Llorente put an end to it in stoppage time with Atletico’s third goal.
After this victory, Diego Simeone’s side have six points to their credit, while Union remain with three points.
In the next round, Madrid will host Inter at home on November 26, and Union will visit Galatasaray a day earlier.
