The hosts made a confident start and quickly took the lead, with Cunha opening the scoring in the 24th minute and Casemiro doubling the lead ten minutes later after ricocheting off a Verbruggen defender. In the 61st minute, Mbemo brought the score to 3:0, and later could have made a double, but Verbruggen saved the visitors again.
Brighton did not give up and won two goals in the second half: Welbeck converted a free kick in the 74th minute, and in the 90th + 2nd minute Kostoulas closed Milner’s feed from a corner – 3:2. However, in the 90th + 6th minute, Mbemo scored his second goal in the match, sealing Manchester United’s victory – 4:2.
