The hosts shocked the champions already at the beginning of the game – Dango Ouattara opened the scoring in the 5th minute. At the end of the first half, Kevin Schade doubled Brentford’s advantage, but Milos Kerkez managed to reduce the deficit for Liverpool before the break – 2:1.
In the second half, Ihor Thiago made the score 3:1, after which the guests again tried to save the game. In the 89th minute, Mohamed Salah scored his first goal since September 14, but there was not enough time for a comeback – the final whistle sealed the victory for Brentford.
Ukrainian midfielder Yehor Yarmolyuk was in the starting line-up of “Bumblebees”, but due to an injury he had to leave the field in the first half.
The defeat was Liverpool’s fourth in a row in the league – the team’s first such run in four years. Arne Slot’s wards fell to the sixth place with 16 points. Brentford, on the other hand, rose to tenth place with 13 points.
