Despite the excitement and the full stadium, Oliver Glasner’s team could not turn their advantage into goals. The Eagles created 15 chances at the opponent’s goal, but only one of them hit the goal plane.
The fate of the match was decided by a mistake in the 51st minute, when the defender Jaydy Kanvot passed the ball directly to the opponent, which led to the winning goal by Riad Baij.
After the match, manager Oliver Glasner said that this defeat could be beneficial. “It’s disappointing, but maybe our whole environment needed this to stay humble,” he said.
The coach added that the team must learn from such mistakes and noted that the game reminded him of “déjà vu” – when a team creates chances but does not score and is ultimately punished for it.
Glasner drew parallels with last weekend’s 3-3 Premier League draw against Bournemouth, where Palace also created plenty of chances but were unable to seal the win due to poor execution, including Jean-Philippe Mateta wasting a chance to win in the closing minutes.
