“This is a great result for our team. I think the team and our fans deserved such a great evening.
The last few weeks have not been the best for us, but I have always trusted my players and our approach. We played against a very good team, one of the best in the entire Conference League. We played this match very well from a tactical point of view. This is a credit to the team and the players. We had a lot of great moments, but there were also moments when we lost control. Apart from the goal, the opponent had no clear chances. We had more good times.
We are happy, but we have two days to recover and we have an important championship match ahead of us. Congratulations to my players, including those who did not make it to the application. We were like one great team. I don’t like to single out individual players, but today I would like to praise Rafal Augustyniak. It was a fantastic game.
In the Ekstraklasa, we controlled the course of each match. I don’t remember any where we did it. But we were losing points and had to add. Today we played well in defense and in transition. We changed the strategy a little, although, as before, we wanted to possess the ball. The opponent had many quality players and excellent equipment.
We were looking for passes behind the opponent’s back. I needed reliable protection. We also played well on the counter-attack. I know how Shakhtar’s coach feels, because I myself have experienced many such moments.
A coach never feels relieved even after such a victory. The victory in Europe was important for us, but we are glad that we were able to overcome this difficult period. We have achieved our goal, but things are not going very well for us in the Ekstraklasa.
I am not as emotional as others. After defeat, the opinion completely changes. With or without me, this team has a great future. I can’t be that emotional – it’s part of my job – I made that decision myself. I grew up in a family with deep football roots. My father was a great football player. Football has been with me all my life. I am very confident in working with Legia. I can promise that I am ready for anything,” the press service of the club quotes Yordenescu as saying.
