FC Shakhtar made an official statement regarding the incident with Ukrainian defender Yukhym Konopley, who was at the center of a scandal due to his activity on social networks.

The club announced that they had conducted an internal investigation into the situation, which caused a wide response. Earlier, users of social networks drew attention to the player’s preferences under publications of a pro-Russian nature.

“The player admitted the wrongness of his actions, fully realized their inadmissibility and sincerely apologized to the fans, the team and the club,” Shakhtar’s official statement reads.

In addition to the public apology, Konoplia also joined the initiative to purchase a pickup truck for representatives of the “miners” fan movement, who are currently defending Ukraine at the front.

Earlier, Yukhym Konoplia himself commented on the incident, admitting that he made a mistake and assured that he supports Ukraine in the fight against the aggressor.
