Barcelona was again in the spotlight through her financial affairs, but this time under UEFA’s close eye. The European football governing body is preparing to impose a significant penalty on the club for non -compliance in accounting related to its aggressive financial levers.

The essence of the problem lies in fundamentally different approaches to the reflection of income. If in the Spanish League the proceeds from the activation of these levers were interpreted as ordinary operating income, then UEFA considers them as exceptional, which extends beyond standard financial rules.

The situation has intensified after Barcelona was already fined 500,000 euros for breach of financial fair-play, causing concerns about possible sports sanctions. In order to avoid this, the President of the club Jan Laportau personally met with UEFA Chairman Alexander Cheferin, trying to explain the complex structure of Barcelona’s financial reporting.

According to the initial data of Mundo Deportivo, the UEFA Executive Board led to a fine of 60 million euros. However, thanks to intensive negotiations, the club seems to have a softening blow. Barcelona insisted on its unique Sosos management structure, which makes it impossible for traditional raising capital through the sale of shares. In addition, the Catalans appealed to the fact that their financial levers were approved by President La League Havier Tebas, which in Spain allowed them to sell assets for a certain period with further return.

After long discussions, UEFA made concessions. The final amount is expected to be reduced to 15 million euros, provided that Barcelona will steadily follow the rules of financial fair-play in the future.

Barcelona retains optimism about this situation. The club is convinced that even a reduced fine will not have a significant impact on their financial situation due to the successful performance of the team last season. The fine is likely to be covered from the budget allocated for unforeseen expenses. The parties are currently in the final stage of negotiations, in agreement with the final amount and specific financial liabilities.

Recall that Lewandovsky is threatened with disqualification in Barcelona because of a conflict in the Poland national team.
