UAF President Andriy Shevchenko commented on yesterday’s elections to the UEFA Executive Committee, which took place during the 49th Congress of the Organization in Belgrade. Recall that Shevchenko lost the elections to the executive committee.

“First of all, I want to thank the Regional Football and UAF Executive Associations again, who nominated me by a candidate for UEFA Executive Committee.

I am also grateful to our team for these two months of campaigns, and national associations – for the opportunity to meet personally or communicate with almost everyone. I received a lot of support from colleagues in the fight for a place in the executive committee.

Throughout my life and careers, I am guided by the main principle – sports. I used to fight honestly, openly and transparently. I’m from football and I’m about football.

However, unfortunately, in recent days we have received some signals that because of political aspects Ukraine and I personally do not want to see me in the UEFA governing body. This was confirmed by further events at the Congress itself.

In this regard, I am sincerely grateful to the national associations that voted for me and for Ukraine. It was a vote not only for me as a candidate, but for our whole country.

We will not change our position and continue reforms in our football. We will continue to keep international communication in the interests of our country and the football community, ”Andrey Shevchenko said.

From now on, in the next two years, the Ukrainian Association will not have the right to vote in the UEFA Executive Committee.
