Oleksandr Shovkovskyi, the head coach of the “White-Blues”, shared his impressions of the result of this confrontation.
“Once again I want to thank the Turkish community, Turkey, for the warm treatment that the team receives while being here in the meeting. We feel supported in connection with the situation that is happening in our country. We perfectly understood that the opponent team is on the move, it plays its matches in the Turkish championship, ranks first in the tournament table, has a very strong attack and effective use of set pieces. Unfortunately, according to the game scenario we made mistakes at the beginning of the first half and also at the beginning of the second half, especially during regulation time – after corners.We understand that we will have to work on that.
A separate story is, of course, the support Galatasaray gets when playing at home in front of their own fans, and that’s a compliment to the Turkish fans. It’s always nice to play in front of packed stands, and even more so when the support is so crazy. Unfortunately, this is not the case in our country due to the ongoing war.
Speaking of the fans, I have been reminding our players that it is important to manage our emotions before the game, so that they do not interfere with our actions in the organization of both defense and attack. On the other hand, we talked about the fact that it is very important to make the right decisions when organizing the game, both in defense and in attack. And in this matter we had problems, especially in the first half and in the second half of the meeting. We did not make the decisions we agreed on. I hope it is because of the emotional state and the crazy support that the stadium gave and because of the pressure that our players felt during the match.
We should have handled the ball more calmly in the phase of transition to attack, because there were very good moments that needed to be used. The decisions made and the technical deficiency did not allow us to attack more successfully. I’m not talking about the closing stages, I’m talking about the stage where we had great opportunities to make very effective attacks with high goalscoring chances. And the main point is, of course, the fact that even with the unfavorable scores of 0:2 and 1:3, we continued to play, tried to find our moments and in the end found them and scored a draw.
Was this Dynamo’s best performance in this Europa League? Analyzing any game, we should not always be attached to the result. Of course, it is very important, but sometimes the result may not objectively reflect the information. Of course, the first scoring points in the seventh round are not what we hoped for at the beginning. But we have what we have, unfortunately, the situation has developed this way, and it is a certain coincidence of circumstances. Today we went out on the football field to show that the team has character, and no matter what the situation is, we will fight until the end.
We go to every match, analyzing the opponent’s actions. We try to make our settings for the game and strive to play for the maximum result in any match. The strategy may differ depending on the opponent, the situation, the circumstances, but in every game we try to win.
After the break, we made two substitutions, we understood that they should strengthen our game, stabilize the center. We counted on the individual qualities of Andrii Yarmolenko, his confidence and experience, so we entered the second half with a great desire to score more.
Yarmolenko? Of course, when a substitute scores two goals, it means that the substitution was successful. And Oleksandr made a pass from the corner, after which Yarmolenko scored, reducing the score. So both substitutions are important. I repeat to my players, and they must understand that we have a starting line-up that takes into account many points, objective and subjective details.
