The Football Association of Iceland announced on its official website the appointment of the new head coach of the national team, Arnar Gunnleigsson.

The details of the agreement with the 51-year-old Icelander are not disclosed.

Before that, Gunnleigsson led Vikingur, together with which he became the champion of Iceland, won the Cup four times and once the Super Cup of the country.

The first challenge of the new coach will be the play-off matches against Kosovo for promotion to Division B in the League of Nations. The matches will be held on March 20 and 23.

As a reminder, Iceland is the opponent of the Ukrainian national team in the qualifying group of the 2026 World Cup. The matches will be held on October 10 and November 16.
