As part of the 1/32 finals of the English Cup, Birmingham Aston Villa met London West Ham, led by Graham Potter, who officially replaced Julen Lopetegui as head coach the day before.

Already in the 9th minute, Potter’s newly-minted wards were able to please their new captain with a goal, the author of which was Lucas Paquet.

And if Aston Villa showed absolutely nothing in the first half, then already after the break, with a minimal advantage in the account, the “hammer fighters” forgot about the attack, for which they ultimately paid the price.

Aston Villa turned the tide in their favor in the closing stages, with goals from Amadou Onan and Morgan Rodgers sending them through to the next stage of the FA Cup.

Aston Villa — West Ham 2:1
Goals: Onana, 71, Rogers, 76 – Paqueta, 9

Aston Villa: Olsen – Cash (Nedelkovic, 72), Konsa, Mingz, Matsen – Kamara (Ramsey, 72), Tielemans – Bailey (Buendia, 72), Barkley (Onana, 23), Rodgers – Watkins
