From the first minutes, the teams acted cautiously and did not rush to force the development of events. The Romans fired long-range shots, while the guests waited for their chance. The first really dangerous moment came in the middle of the half, when Noslin broke through in one touch after a pass from the wing, but could not hit the ball on target.
The most interesting happened in the 36th minute. Dumfries headed in from a corner, but Provedl cleared the ball in front of him. After that, De Vray struck the empty corner of the goal, but before that Lautaro caught Gigot in the face with his foot. It seemed that the goal was disallowed, but later there were suspicions that during Dumfries’ shot, the ball hit Gigot in the hand. The referee went to review the replay and returned with a decision – a penalty. Calhanoglu confidently implemented the sentence.
Even before the break, Inter was able to double the advantage – Dumfries crossed from the right wing to the opposite edge of the penalty area, and Dimarco hit the corner of the goal with a one-touch shot. 0:2. There were expectations that Lazio would try to turn the game around in the second half, but the beating of the Romans continued. First, Barella received the ball from Calhanoglu in the central zone and with the second touch he irresistibly shot into the upper corner of the goal. 0:3.
A few minutes later, Bastoni curled a cross at the far post, and Dumfries took advantage of a mistake by Tavares and headed Provedel’s goal. 0:4. Lazio frankly fell. After that, Inter went on the defensive, and Lazio tried to create at least some danger. The visitors’ plan worked much better, because the Baroni team could not create anything.
Towards the end of the match, Inter scored again – Dimarco coolly found Carlos Augusto in the penalty area, and he turned and shot into the far corner. 0:5. On the bad news for the visitors, Barella and Dimarco were injured, but they were unlikely to be serious injuries. It seemed that the game would end like that, but Tyuram received a pass in someone else’s penalty area, took the ball under his right foot and shot into the near corner. 0:6. The final whistle of the referee recorded the victory of the Inzaghi team with an incredible score.
